What Is the Title Tag Pixel Limit?
Google limits title tags in search results to approximately 600 pixels wide on desktop displays. This corresponds to roughly 50–60 characters for typical English text (using Google's default font at ~20px). Titles wider than 600px are truncated with an ellipsis in search results.
On mobile, the effective limit is narrower — around 496px — because the available width for the title in the search result card is smaller. This means a title that looks fine on desktop may still be truncated on mobile.
Why Title Tag Length Matters for SEO
A truncated title tag harms click-through rate: when users can't read the full title in search results, they're less likely to click. Google may also rewrite your title tag if it considers it too long, too short, or a poor match for the page content — and Google's rewrites often perform worse than well-crafted originals.
Keeping your title tag within the 560–600px range maximizes the chance that it appears exactly as written in Google's results.
